We had a wonderful trip to Malaysia taking in Peninsula and Borneo. Inside Asia walked me through the key decisions, based on our previous travel experience, budget and time. They gave me a lot of pre-travel info and managed changes in itinerary during our trip (hotel not being opened in time post-covid) seamlessly
Liam was very supportive from our initial contact (relatively close to the departure date), through-out pre-travel and on the trip itself. He always chased down answers to our tricky questions and responded quickly and clearly
We had a good mix of 3* city hotels, 'jungle camps' and 4-5* beach hotels. The 3* city hotels were all clean and well presented. The hotel in Ipoh (M boutique) was not central to the restaurant district which was a mistake as we didn't realise it was there. Grab took a long time to load (>5 days to work) so we were stuck in the hotel and the food was average. The other city hotels (KL, Penang and Kuching) were very central and we could walk into the main restaurant/ night-life areas. The jungle camps and wildlife resorts were fabulous and the general trend of higher star hotels towards the end of the holiday was great. The switch of hotel from Gaya Island to Shangri-La Rasa Ria (SLRR) was a real shame, nut unavoidable. SLRR was a 5* hotel about an hour from KK. It was very isolated and we felt trapped in the resort, which was very expensive food-wise compared to everywhere else on the trip. We spent a third of our total budget in these last 4 days. The hotel was lovely, but I would have preferred to have gone back to the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, where we could have accessed the restaurants in KK and arranged another boat trip
