Good quality hotels in excellent, central locations....walking distance from all the key sites

Very pleased with the hotels - we went for third star - with the possible exception of the Hotel Intergate in Hiroshima where the room was just that bit too small for two people with luggage. However, we did very much appreciate that some hotels had very good happy hours. Otherwise I would rate the hotels as excellent as third star hotels.

We were provided with a range of accommodation experiences ranging from local ryokans to western style hotels. With only one exception we were very content with the accommodation provided.

The first accommodation (Gracery Hotel Seoul) was excellent and set the standard very high. The traditional stay in Gyeongju was a bit more uncomfortable than what we expected (very noisy, touristic environment, not great bathroom facilities) but it might be because we expected something different and more similar to a Japanese ryokan, which was unfair on our part. The biggest disappointment was the Felix hotel in Busan: staff was rude and unwilling to provide information, the room was dirty (we found an old slipper surrounded by several dust bunnies under the bed, sign that it wasn't cleaned in months at least) and one night the alarm woke us up at 4am, which was very scary, and the only explanation was of "a malfunction". The 9brick hotel back in Seoul was ok and in a nice location, but breakfast was very poor: there were only two choices of food (both with meat) and they didn't have tea, only coffee and hot water (and what's the point of having hot water if you don't have tea bags??), which was weird and quite annoying in a 3 stars hotel.

Most hotels were excellent but one really fell below the standard we expect and was very disappointing. This has already been fed back to Sam.

They were all in excellent locations and met our expectations and good quality.

All the hotels and the hanok guesthouse met my expectations and were well situated for each element of my trip.

The accommodation in Andong was below expectations. The CK hotel wasn’t very good. The room had a shower over the bath with no rails- difficult for older people, the power points weren’t easily accessible / being under a bench, room lighting not accessible from the bed- it was across the room. The mattress was as hard as a rock- very difficult to sleep- it was an ensemble - we wondered if the mattress was upside down with the base on top? The breakfast was ok but the room wasn’t clean- tables not wiped down and it was just not clean in spots where the food was displayed ,particularly the coffee machine and the water machine. I am aware there was only one hotel in the new town of Andong but our guide told us a second has just opened- it might be worth IAT checking it out
The Busan Asti hotel was very convenient to the railway station and a good hotel but eating there was a bit difficult as it is such a busy spot.
