Kalaywa Tawyakyaung Monastery - a photoblog
Last week we explored beautiful Inle Lake via the photography of Sara Pretelli, who collaborated with us on a trip to Burma earlier this year. Today, we continue to showcase her work with a series taken at the Kalaywa Tawyakyaung Monastery in Yangon. Occupying the second-highest hill in the city, the monastery was built on the site after "sacred rays" were seen here in the 1930s. Its purpose is to educate bhikku (monks), samanera (novices) and nuns in Buddhist scripture as well as modern school subjects, and there are more than a thousand devotees either living or studying at the school at any one time.#
