Classic Hong Kong
While some of our itineraries focus on uncovering Hong Kong’s unexpected charms, this one doesn’t look far for its thrills. It doesn’t need to.
Whether you picture yourself crossing Victoria Harbor on the Star Ferry, ordering dim sum from a cart in an old-fashioned canteen, or basking in the gritty, neon glow of Kowloon’s tangled signage, this itinerary celebrates Hong Kong’s classic experiences in all their glory.

Day 1-2
Hong Kong Island
Hong Kong is a city of two halves, and you’ll start by getting a view of both as you ascend by funicular tram to the top of Victoria Peak. Once you’ve taken in the breathtaking surroundings, your guide will take you down to the opposite side of the island, where the world’s most expensive real estate lives side-by-side with a fishing community who still sleep on their junk boats and live off the sea. On returning to the city center, you’ll conclude your half-day tour with one of the world’s iconic boat rides: the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbor. Follow it with a dim sum lunch — then spend the rest of your afternoon in the eclectic markets and swanky sky bars of Kowloon, as you choose.
Highlights
Look down on the skyscrapers from the summit of Victoria Peak
Treat yourself to a classic dim sum lunch
Cross Victoria Harbor on the iconic Star Ferry
Day 3-4
Kowloon
Historically the grittier, more authentically Chinese side of the city, Kowloon is the place to capture something of the romance of old Hong Kong. You’ll have the morning to imagine you’re in a Wong Kar-wai movie, munching on egg waffles and perhaps exploring the labyrinthine malls and African bistros of Chunking Mansions. Then, you’ll meet your guide for a whistlestop tour of the area’s famous markets, where vendors hawk everything from flowers and birds to sneakers and knock-off designer bags. Among the afternoon’s highlights is Wong Tai Sin, a Taoist temple where you can have your fortune told and your wishes granted — or so they say, at least.
Highlights
Peruse Kowloon’s many markets, which specialize in everything from jade to vegetables
Visit Wong Tai Sin, a temple combining Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian traditions
Recapture a sense of old Hong Kong as you wander Kowloon’s neon-drenched streets
