Day 1-2
Malacca
With its bright-red Dutch Stadthuys and Portuguese fort, the port town of Malacca is one of Malaysia’s most beautiful cities – but its European influences are more than just skin-deep. On your visit, you'll go beyond the city’s colonial architecture to immerse yourself in its rich hybrid culture, sampling Portuguese custard tarts, learning to cook Peranakan cuisine, visiting a centuries-old Kristang settlement, and witnessing Chinese-Malay fusion culture at the Baba Nyonya Museum. Then, at Jonker Street night market, you’ll taste how this complex web of influences has given birth to one of Asia’s most exciting street food scenes.

Day 3-4
Kuala Lumpur
In contrast to Malacca’s historic streets, KL is a gleaming beacon of modernity, where the turquoise-and-gold domes of contemporary Islamic architecture stand beneath the gaze of the futuristic Petronas Towers. Your visit is all about getting beyond this dazzling veneer as you explore the street-food hawker stalls of Chinatown, go on an after-dark tour of the capital’s British-colonial architecture, and get acquainted with Hindu culture in Little India. Everywhere you go, experience culture first-hand, whether it's receiving a blessing at a Hindu temple or learning to tie a marigold garland. KL may look like any other city on the surface of it, but you’ll soon find out that's not the case.
